About
Jay Guevara’s career is as vast and different as the music he records.
Spanning over 2 decades he has performed with some of the most interesting
singers of our time. In his early career he briefly performed with
the Flirtations as Michael Callen’s soprano understudy. Continuing
his
soprano fascination he traveled in the European cast of “Chicago” playing
Mary Sunshine. This was his first, but not last time to do drag. He
briefly toured with San Francisco’s very own Kinsey Sicks as the
Trixie
Understudy.
Other musical groups include the Lavender Light Gospel
Choir in New York City and the Gay Men’s Chorus of San Francisco
where he originated the role of the “Very, very, very, very Good
Boy” in
Robert Seeley’s “Naked Man.” Other musical roles include”Woof” in
the European revival of the musical “Hair”, Ritchie Valens
in the Reno
production of “Buddy”,Simon Zealots in "Jesus Christ
Superstar", Riff
Raff in the "Rocky Horror Show" and as himself in the San Francisco
production of “Broadway Ballbusters”.
After a brief hiatus
from his
musical career he began singing at his most favorite place in San Francisco,
Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. It was here that he realized
the power of both faith and music combined. With the release of
his first CD aptly named “Dichotomy”, he expresses himself
in many
different genre’s of music including spiritual, classical, cabaret,
rock
and roll, musical theatre and disco. |
